Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about coffee in the context of breakfast habits

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a role play in the context of breakfast habits

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show them a picture of breakfast and elicit the word. Ask them all what they had for breakfast.

Pre-teach Vocabulary (10-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible by teaching possible problem words

using props and stories elicit 5-6 difficult words from text. Do MPF by model and rrepeate, writing it on board and eliciting

Reading for Gist (4-5 minutes) • To introduce students to the text

have them read 5 titles then tell them that they are to read the article for 3 minutes and choose the best title. ICQ's to ensure comprehension

Reading for Detail (10-10 minutes) • To teach reading comprehension in the context of breakfast

Have the students read through a list of T/F's. Now with the T/F questions have then read in detail for these facts. Have them check in pairs. Nominate to answer to class. clarify any vocab or pronunciation problems I see.

Productive task (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Have the students talk in pairs about their experiences with coffee at breakfast. Have them share to the class about what they learned about their partner.
