Listening & Speaking Lesson
Intermediate (B1 / B2) level

Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice their listening and speaking skills by talking about the various photographs they will be given.

Main Aims

  • To provide listening by hearing about different contexts and phrases.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of holiday and travel topics also supported by the functional language.
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in personal conversations.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1.Ss will be presented the sentence "Different ways of travel and various holiday destinations". 2. I will ask briefly if they had a different type of holiday / travel. 3. They will discuss in pairs. 4. As a feedback, they will tell their answers to the class.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Ss will be asked to wander around the classroom and talk about the photographs on the wall. 2. Then, in their groups, they will tell their answers to the questions as: a. what can you see in the photos? b. when were the the photos taken? c. what do you think the people whoo took the photos had done earlier that day? d. how do you think they are feeling?

While-Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

1. Ss will listen for the gist the recording to determine which photos is the recording about. 2. They will work in pairs. 3. As a feedback, Ss will their answers to the class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1 Ss will listen to the recording again for the detailed for this time. 2. They will be given the table-complete handout. 3. They will complete the table according to the speakers from the recording. 4. As a feedback, Ss will write the answers on the w/b.

Post-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1.Ss will listen to the recording for the last time. 2. They will be given the phrase-tick handout and they will tick the phrase they hear from the recording. 3. As a feedback, there will be drilling.

Production Stage (8-10 minutes) • To provide clarification for Ss to talk about the topic in the TL.

1. Ss will divide into pairs. 2. They will be given various photos of different travels. 3. In pairs, they will create a story for the photos. 4. Then, as pairs, they will shuffle and make a group of 4 people. 5. Each pair tell their photo story to another pair.
