Description

In this lesson, students will be able to talk about people's lives.They will be say when people were born and died,when people did things and what people did in their lives.Students will also expand their vocabulary of nationalities,jobs and years.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of years, nationalities and jobs in the context of famous people

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of past simple verbs in the context of famous people

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students to guess my age.Then I will give them a clue and I will say: 'I was born in 1980' and then drill the sentence.Then I will write the sentence on the board and explain them we say years in pairs of numbers:19-80.Then, ı will ask them to ask when their partners were born.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will tell them they are going to listen a record which tells years.I will ask them to write years they heard.Then, I will tell them to check their answers with their partners and then I will get feedback and will write the correct answers on the board and ask them to check.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will stick photos of famous people which have years on them on the board.I will tell them they are going to listen years which are on the photos and tell the students to match the years they heard with the photos.I will play recording and then pause after each one and ask who it goes with.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will ask the students to look at the photos and ask them to quess what their nationality are and ask them to discuss with their partners.While the students are discussing I will stick the nationalities randomly and ask them to match the nationalities with the photos.Then,I will check the answers and drill the nationalities.Afterwards,I will ask them to quess their jobs and ask them to discuss their partners.Next, I will stick the jobsrandomly and ask them to match the photos with the jobs.I will check and drill the jobs.Following this, I will make a sentence by using nationality and job. I will model the sentence first then ask them to make sentence as ı made.Finally, I will get feedback.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will stick 7 sentences about the photos randomly on the board and ask them to match the sentences with the photos.Before they match the sentences with the photos ı will give them 2 minutes to discuss with their partners.Then I will get feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The students will ask questions with each other about the people on the photos and answer the question. For example: Student A:When did Tolstoy write the novel Anna Karenina? Student B:He wote it in 1877.

free activity (3-5 minutes) • to write past forms of verbs

The students will play a game.I will write the bare infinitives of the verbs on cards and put the cards in a box.The students will choose a card from the box and the need to write the past forms of the verbs.Then,I will divide the students into two groups. Each group has 1 minute. The group who has the most verbs will be the winner.
