Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Spain's third city sees winter off with a bang in the context of party

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of party

Procedure

Lead-in (8 minutes) • To engage ss and set a context for the lesson

T play a short video clip from youtube about the Las Fallas festival for about 3-5 minutes and have ss to talk about it and then ask them if they ever attended any party of such. Then T will have them talk to share their ideas.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (5 minutes) • To make it easier for ss to understand the text

Putting Ss in groups of three, T will give ss HO with words (taken from the text) and their meanings and ask them to match the words to their meaning in three minutes. T will regroup them to check their answers FB: GW, whole class

Reading for gist (5 minutes) • To have ss be familiar with the text

ss will be given 3 mutes to skim the text and say what the text is`about. ss work in pairs and check their answers. T will share the answers with the class.

Reading for details (15 minutes) • To motivate ss to use anotther reading technique (scanning)

T will give ss a HO with questions to be read and answered after rereading the text Ss check in pairs. Then, T will give them HO containing two halves of sentences. ss work in pairs and match them. T will switch partners to have them check their answers. Afterwards, ss will be given another HO and have them work in pairs and match the phrasal verbs to their meanings T will have ss check their answers by walking around the class to find the answers (T will stick the answers on the wall). NOTE: One of the activity might be left if i run out of time.

Post Reading (7 minutes) • To motivate Ss to use their productive skills (speaking) and share their ideas

T will give ss a HO with comprehension questions to answer them individually. ss will share their ideas with their partners. T will select some ss to talk about their partners' answers. FB: PW, WC

Feedback (5 minutes) • To make sure ss understand the whole content of the lesson

T will praise ss for use of good language and correct any possible error been made by the ss.
