In this lesson, students will learn how to use function language to give advice and make suggestions in context of a foreigner visit to a foreign country.

Abc Pictures, Students book (p. 80- 81)

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be able to use function language to give advice and make suggestions in the context of a foreigner visit to a foreign country

Subsidiary Aims

  • Practicing speaking for fluency in regard to giving advice and making suggrestions

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

*The T shows the Ss a picture about giving advice and making suggestions and asks the Ss to express what they can see in the picture. *Then T sets instructions for a lead in task: -I pairs, tell your partner about a situation when you asked for advice/ suggestions. -Who gave you the advice. -What would you do if you were in the same situation of your partner. -You have 3 minutes * T asks CCQs: - How many questions you need to answer? 3 How much time do you have? 3 minutes * Meanwhile T monitors *T listens to the answers of some Ss.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To get the students exposed to the text that includes the TL

*After setting the context, the T sets instructions for (Ex.1 A) -Individually read the conversation to check what do the tourists want to know. -You have 2 minutes. *Then T asks CCQs: Will you work individually or in pairs? individually *Meanwhile T monitors *Pair checking *Then T gets the answer from the Ss

Highlightingh (5-7 minutes) • To shift the students' notice to the target language

*The T sets instructions for (Ex.1B) -Individually, complete the chart with the Expressions in bold from the conversation above. - You have 3 minutes. *Then T asks ICQs: -Will you work individually or in pairs? individually -Will you complete with the expressions in bold from the conversation or any phrase from your mind? from the conversation? -How much time do you have? 3 minutes *Meanwhile, T monitors * Peer checking (1 minute) * The gets the answers from the Ss.

[controlled practice]: *The T sets instructions for (Ex. 1C) -In pairs, practice the conversation in Exercise 1A with your partner (Taking the intonation into consideration) -You have 3 minutes *Meanwhile, T monitors [Freer practice]: *T sets instructions: -The T divides the Ss into 2 groups (A, B) -The T says group A are the citizens and group B are the tourists. -The T says there are 4 situations -The Ss should mingle to ask for and give one or more advice/ suggestions about the 4 situations. - The T tells the Ss that after 3 minutes he will ask them to reverse the roles. -The T tell the Ss to check whether the suggestions they gave when they were citizens were similar to the ones they got as they were tourists or different. -You have 7 minutes *The T asks ICQs: -Will you mingle for each situation or speak with the same partner? mingle -Can you give more than one suggestion? yes -Will you try to figure out whether the suggestion you gave as a citizen is similar to the one you received as a tourist? yes How much time do you have? 7 minutes *Meanwhile, the T monitors
