Description

In this lesson, students will listen to three men and three women talking about how they liked or disliked their school time and the subjects they studied

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using an audio file about School time in the context of Likes and Dislikes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a COnversation in the context of School time

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will set an atmosphere about the school time and will talk about my experiences of school and then ask the students to write a sentence describing how they feel or used to feel about their school time. Then I and the whole class will check if their answers are positive or negative or maybe both

Pre-Listening (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be informed with the meaning of some vocabularies used in the audio file by trying to match the meaning of the words with the vocabularies individually. They will check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class. P.E , school reunion , Spring break, Elementary school , getting caught , Invent an excuse

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

The students will listen to the track and try to do the task 5b on page 87 of The book. first they will read the 6 sentences related to the audio file. After listening to the track, they will have 2 minutes to first, specify whether each sentence is positive or negative and second, match each speaker with the sentence best describing his or her statement regarding the speaker number. Then answers will be checked with the whole class.

While-Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to the audio file again and they have to answer the question 5c on page 87 of the book. They have to write the subjects that each speaker likes or dislikes. They have 2 minutes to do this task individually and then the answers will be checked with the whole class.

Post-Listening (4-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the audio file and expand on what they've learned

Students will be asked to talk with each other in groups of 2 about what subjects they liked in school and what subjects they disliked or even hated.
