To review and practice the TL (can/ can't) in the context of unusual inventions.
Procedure (36-47 minutes)
- T writes "Gizmos & Gadgets" on the WB and tries to elicit the meaning from Sts. - T Projects some examples on the WB and explain the difference between gizmos and gadgets. - T asks Sts to think about other examples in pairs.
- T gives Sts HO1 and asks them to look at the pictures and try to guess the use of each gadget/ gizmo in pairs/small groups. T tells Sts to check the names under the picture to help them come up with more predictions.
- T writes the following Qs on the WB: 1. What is it? 2. What do people use it for? 3. What type of person might buy it? 4. Do you want one? why/why not? and asks Sts to discuss with a partner and make notes. - T conducts feedback and encourage Sts to use the TL.
- T starts with positive feedback about the TL to motivate Sts and encourage them. - Then T highlights some errors and tries to elicit the correct form from Sts. - T does some different kinds of drilling.
- In pairs/small groups, Sts think of their own gizmos and draw them. - Then Sts exchange their gizmos with another pair. - Each pair has to predict the use of the gizmo which is drawn by other partners. - Sts check with the designers to see if their ideas are correct. - Feedback
- Sts mingle in pairs to advertise the unusual gadget they've invented and convince another pair to buy it. - T conducts feedback to see which partners were able to sell their invention!
