Procedure (45 minutes)
T name countries in the quiz and ask ss what they know or what they can tell about them. T check the meaning of the TL with the ss then put them into pairs to do the quiz. Ss listen to check their answer and note any answer that they didn't get right.
T check that ss understand the comparative and superlative forms of the adjective on the w/b then clarify the rules for one-, two- and three-syllable adjectives. T ask ss to match sentences to the correct picture, then complete the missing words in the superlative phrases.
Ss work in pairs to complete each sentence. Peer-checking before open class FB HO 2, ex 1
Ss listen and write their answer in any order they choose. Ss swap their book/paper with their partner and ask questions to find out why they wrote down the places and check if any of their answer is same. HO2, ex 2
Ss look at the table that gives information about the UK and two of it's neighbors, France and Ireland then listen to six statements and decide from the table if they are true or false, then correct the false statements. Ss work in pairs, use the table to write six more true or false statements about the three countries. Then they read their sentences to another pair. HO3, ex 3 HO4
Ss write down the name of a nearby country to compare with their country (preferable one that is very different from their country). Then think of eight to ten differences; for exmple: size, population, cities, scenery, climate, cost of living, etc. Ss then compare their ideas in groups HO 3, ex 4.
T praise ss for use of good language, give FB on what they spoke about and correct errors made by them be it in meaning, form, pronunciation or accuracy by writing out the errors on w/b and elicit the corrections.
