Description

In this lesson learners will read an article about accidents. They will be able to rad for main idea and for detail. They talk about accidents and injuries. They will also explain how something happened. They will be introduced to accidents and injury vocabulary.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about accidents in the context of safety and risks.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of accidents.
  • To provide clarification and practice of accidents and injuries words in the context of accidents.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in/speaking (13-16 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss a picture about risky behaviors Ask them to talk about it Then ask do you take a lot of risks? Check Ss understand the meaning of risks. Ask Ss to do the quiz Post answer keys on wall and ask them to check Discuss the questions in groups and let Ss give examples of people they know

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give a small game to Ss Ss match definition of difficult word Put them into 2/3 groups and let them match Ss peer check other groups Do FB

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Divide the article into 4 parts Give each part to one S Ss read about how people are accidents-prone and find the answer of: How do you think these things can make people have more accidents? Put them into groups of 4 and let them share answers Do FB

While-Reading #2 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Now Ss read the complete article in 5m Then they answer ex 3a Peer check answers in PW

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask do you agree with these ideas in the article? Why? Why not? Ss discuss in groups/pairs
