Description

in this lesson, students will continue to learn more about cultures and traditions. That will happen through listening to a story called "Ready for Aloha". the session will start with a warmer and a lead-in where the students watch a video to answer some questions and remember our essential unit question. After that there will be another video where I ask them whether they know where the video is happening or not: it is from the famous cartoon called Lilo and Stitch, so they will probably say yes. this is going to be followed by the new to the difficult vocabulary they are going to hear while listening to the story. After that, we will go through a gist listening followed by a specific one, and after that the one for details that help them visualize what they are listening to and have more understanding of the ideas. there will be some freer activities for them to respond to the listening through speaking.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First, the teacher will greet the students, and then remind them of the classroom rules. After that, the teacher will ask some questions after showing a video of a song to refresh the students' memory about the essential question of the unit. the questions: 1) Are countries around the world many? 2) Do they all have the same language? 3) Do countries all over the world have the same culture 4) Are their traditions different?

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

First, the teacher will present a set of story names and ask the students to determine which are realistic and which are fiction. Then will ask about the difference between realistic fiction and fiction itself. After that, the students will understand the concept. and the teacher will know for sure that the students have understood the concept through these questions: 1) Can realistic fiction happen in life? 2) Can fiction if it is not realistic happen in life? 3) Can we talk with birds? After that, The teacher will pre-teach the new vocabulary the students will encounter while listening to the story. ( festival - sleepyhead - haupia - pot - stir - hot - warm - thick - pudding - pineapple - melon - strawberry - mango - tray - twinkle - lantern - ukelele - lei - thick - tray - shell )

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher will ask the students to listen to the story about Aleka and her grandmum to answer this question: 1) Can you put another title to the story?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The teacher will ask the Ss to read a list of four questions and then listen to the story again to answer them alone and then check with their partners. the questions: 1) what did Aleka wake up to? 2) Is Alka happy? why? 3) what will they do tonight? why? 4) When do we say Aloha? After the listening ends, they will have 2 to 3 minutes to answer alone, and after that check their answers with their partner for 2 to 3 minutes. If they cannot answer the questions after listening this time, I will replay the audio again for them.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-The teacher will highlight some celebrations on the board or one of the slides and ask the Ss to work in pairs to choose their favorite one among the celebrations. - Then each one will talk about how they celebrate it in their house and neighborhood and with who. - Each pair will agree on presenting the one that sounds more interesting and fun to talk about. If there is no time, the rest of the class will present next session. ICQs 1) Are you going to talk to your friend or write? Ss....Talk 2) Are you going to talk about your favorite one only? Ss....Yes 3) Are you going to present two celebrations to the class? Ss...No 4) how much time do you have? Ss....10 minutes
