To provide clarification and practice using modal verbs and expressing probability in the context of internet.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in expressing probability in the context of future.

To provide listening practice using a text about modal verbs.
Procedure (42-52 minutes)
Learners will be introduced to modal verbs (will, could, may, & might) Ss modal verbs into sentences based on the picture they see on w/b Now ask Ss about meaning of each modal in each sentence Give FB where necessary
Ss do ex 1a pp 17 Ss read sentences and categorize them Ss peer check with partners Focus on meaning as a whole class FB Play the recording to 1.13 Ss listen and repeat TL Give ex 4 (wkbk) pp 10 if necessary.
Focus on expressions for expressing probability (may well, definitely, probably, likely to, unlikely to, less/more likely to) Place the meaning on w/b Give Ss expression cut-ups Ask them to place these on w/b accordingly Give FB as whole class Now focus on meaning and form (adverbial expressions and adjective) Ask Ss CCQs to clarify meaning and form
Ask Ss what they think the picture is suggesting Then they look at the example and sentences 2 in ex 3 pp 17 Find out Ss' view on how likely these are in the future Write on w/b learners' view on sentence 2 & find out who disagrees Ss complete sentences in pairs Do some FB
Ss discuss in 3 together GW Monitor the groups for new language note useful and incorrect examples of language Do some FB and error correction
