Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about Successful life in the context of listening to a podcast

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide in the context of providing open discussion questions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Teacher shows a picture of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People Book". -Then asks the students what do you know about this book -Students discuss in pairs -Then we have open class feedback

Pre-Listening (1-2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Set The context: Now let's listen to an audio (No hard words to pre-teach)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- Instructions: 1-We have here 5 topics *chesting* 2-I want you to order the 5 topics according to which is mentioned first in the audio (alone) 3- Then tell me which topic wasn't mentioned in the audio -ICQs: 1-How many topics do we have here? 2-How will you order those topics? 3-Will you do it alone or with our partners? -Then teacher plays the audio. -*after the audio end* students check their answers in pairs -Teacher shows the answer key and have an open class feedback

While-Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

-Teacher tells the students to listen again to the audio -Match the people mentioned in the audio with their pictures *chesting* and students do the task alone (ICQs: will you do it alone or with your partner) -Teacher plays the audio, and while monitoring teacher can figure out whether its necessary to play the audio again or not -after doing the detailed task, Students check with their partners, then teacher shows the answer key -Open class feedback to check their understanding

Post-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Teacher asks the students to stand up - teacher provides students questions to ask each other and answer them as well - Now with your partners I want you to discuss those questions together - You have 7 minutes (ICQs: How much time do we have?) - Teacher monitors and takes notes - After they finish, teacher gives content feedback then gives language feedback
