Procedure (36-44 minutes)
T sets the context of the lesson by displaying pictures of famous people and asking students if they know: 1. Who are those people? 2. What are they famous for? T elicits answers and write some of them on the WB.
- T tells Sts to discuss in pairs "what are some ways of becoming famous?" for 1 or 2 min. T displays titles of the short texts on the WB. And asks Sts if any of their ideas is mentioned in the titles. T elicits another ideas from the titles and discuss it with WC. - T writes the following phrases on the WB: 1. Daring stunt. 2. Someone drowning. 3. An outrageous dress. 4. A species of beetle. T displays pictures of the texts on the WB and does not pre-teach those phrases to Sts. And asks Sts to try and guess which pictures do the phrases relate to? Sts guess meaning in pairs T elicit answers from Sts.
- T asks students to look at the first exercise in HO1 and read the text individually for 2 or 3 min. (T tell Sts that they don't have to worry about the words they don't know as they only have to get the general idea.) T asks ICQ : will you stop reading when you don't understand the meaning of a word? (No) Sts compare answers in pairs. T nominate Sts to share their answers. - Vocabulary Exercise
- T asks Sts to look at ex. 2 in HO1 and try to answer (individually) as many questions as possible without reading the texts again. Sts read the text again for 2 or 3 minutes to complete their answers. Sts compare answers in pairs. Sts are given an answers key to check their answers. - T asks students to look at ex. 3 in HO1 and work individually for 2 or 3 min Sts compare answers in small groups T nominates Sts to share their answers on the WB.
T asks Sts to work in pairs or small groups to discuss which methods of becoming famous most/least appeal to you? T conducts feedback WC feedback
