Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of phrases and lexis in a topic of books and TV shows.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To practice speaking both for accuracy and fluency & to practice listening for the descriptions of books and TV shows.
Procedure (38-52 minutes)
As a brief recap, I will ask students if they could remember the TV programmes' categories which they learnt in the observation lesson. As they say, I will write them on the w/b (near of it) and this list will remain during the class (for Ss as a visual to make them learn and remember more easily)
I will show students the four pictures and ask them to predict what they are. I will enumerate these pictures and stick them on the w/b. Ss will discuss their opinions in 4 groups. As a feedback, Ss will listen to an audio dialogue twice and after that, there will be a teacher check.
Ss will change partners (just to keep the class's pace dynamic). They will share their opinions on that books and TV shows. They will explain their partner which one they would like to read or watch. And why/ why not? As a feedback, each student will tell about their partner's choice of book or TV show.
Students will be given handout to fill the gaps with the correct phrases/words. They will work in pairs. As a feedback, they will listen to an audio dialogue twice. After that, there will be a teacher check because Ss will both practice the writing and pronounciation of these phrases at the end of the activity.
There will be drilling of boring, amazing and interesting since they are the key qualificative adjectives of this lesson. Plus, I will give the meaning of "favourite" because it is related to the topic and I can use this word in my CCQs.
I will show and tell my opinions on my book and TV show poster to present the activity Ss. After that, students will change partners again and talk about a book or a TV show they like. As a feedback, each student will tell his/her ideas to the class.
If there is time, Ss will stand up and wander around the class. They will ask "What is your favourite book or TV show?" each other. They will write down each other's answers. After that, we will make a "List of Recommendation" on the w/b and Ss will write one of their classmates' favourite book or TV show, by wriitng person's name in the parenthesis, on the w/b.
