Main Aims

  • To provide practice, review and clarification of describing cities and towns in the context of a city

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of adjectives to describe a city
  • To provide product writing practice of a text in the context of travelling somewhere

Procedure

Warmer-Lead in (8-10 minutes) • To get students' attention by telling a story

The teacher starts by releasing the topic of theday.The topic is Barcelona to explain descriptive adjectives for a town or city.She has also pictures about Barcelona.These pictures represent the vocabulary to be taught by eliciting.In terms of being a real place,it will be helpful to get their attention and give an idea on the tasks we will be covering during the lesson

Speaking for Fluency (5-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher gets the students work in pairs and she gives them cutouts including some questions about a city and she also asks them a main question ‘Which city would you most like to visit?’The students will have a discussion about their favorite places.After teacher gets feedback from students about their favorite places and reasons,she finishes this activity

Productive Task(s)-Speaking,Taboo (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T divides the class into 2 groups.Each group has 10 members and each group has 10 words.While they are playing,teacher monitors them.Because of just fluency speaking activity,teacher doesn't correct any mistakes during the game.When a group finishes first,the game will be finished by the teacher.

Writing Task (10 minutes) • To let them write and produce their knowledge about descriptive adjectives on the paper

Teacher divides the class into 5 groups.Teacher shows the pictures of old and new Istanbul.These groups are writing about ‘ old and new Istanbul’.Teacher gives a time limit for them to finish.When they finish writing ,all the papers are hung on the wall around the class.Each group walks clockwise and they will find the best text a group wrote.
