Description

In this lesson, students will listen to five people taking about things they did in the past and try to complete some sentences about that listening material.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about actions happened in the past in the context of things you did or saw

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of films, books, and restaurants

Procedure

lead in (3-5 minutes) • To set a context for the lesson

T starts talking about himself and what he did or saw to gain the Ss' interest in the topic.

Warm-up (4-6 minutes) • To have Ss talk and share their ideas

T asks Ss to write two sentences about where they went or what they saw/did. Ss say what their partners did and when.

Pre-teaching new words (3-4 minutes) • To help the Ss develop their vocabulary range

T pre-teaches some verbs that ss might find difficult to understand, and show them the difference among these three verbs (saw, watched, looked at) by writing them on the board and try to elicit their meanings from Ss.

Preparing for listening (4-7 minutes) • To motivate Ss to use what they already know about past simple to make sentences

T gives Ss HO with notes (taken from the coursebook) and ask them to work individually and make sentences from these notes. Ss work in pairs and check their answers.

Listening for check (2-3 minutes) • To have Ss make sure their predictions match the right one.

T plays the recording (2.25) and have the students check their answers.

Post-listening (7-10 minutes) • Helping the students develop their productive skills

Each student will be given a white sheet of paper to write about what he saw, looked at, watched, or went to and when. When they finish, Ss share their partners' ideas with the class

Speaking Activity (5-9 minutes) • To have Ss practise what they have learned

T will have the Ss do the "find some who.." activity by having them mingle around the class looking for the people who did the things they have in their handouts.
