Description

In this lesson students will learn some vocabulary about shopping. they will have a few listening exercises about the topic and practice different subskills of listening.

Materials

Abc words and definitions from ex1 with answer key.
Abc sentences from ex2 and answer key.
Abc the interviewer questions from ex1.
Abc Answer key for the interviewer's questions

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about shopping in the context of interview with a shopaholic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of vocabulary related to shopping in the context of an interview with a shopaholic

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Show the students different photos of brands and stick them on the WB - Elicit from the students the word " shopping" - put students in pairs and have them discuss what they like and dislike about shopping.

introducing the vocabulary related to shopping (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- Put students in small groups - give them the HO with the definitions and ask them to match the words with the correct definition. - after they finish give the students the answer key to check their answers. - in the same groups ask the students to put these words in three groups people - places to go shopping - types of - then have three volunteers to put the words in the write place on the WB.

Controlled Practice (9-11 minutes) • to provide practice of the new vocabulary

- students work alone to complete the sentences with words or phrases from ex1. make sure students understand that they should not answer the questions just fill in the gaps and clarify that they will not use all the words from ex1 , just 6 of them .ask ICQs. - students check their answers together. and then check the answer key - students answer the questions about themselves at first. - put students in pairs and have them ask and answer each other the questions in ex2. ( monitor )

listening for gist (4-6 minutes) • to let the students practice understanding the general idea without knowing all the words

- Tell the students that they will listen to a radio interview with a woman named Katy - Ask the students to listen and tell you what's Katy's problem. - take general FB.

pre- teaching vocabulary (5-7 minutes) • to clear any words that may be difficult for some students

- Put students in small groups - Give them the HO with the words and definitions and ask them to match them together. - After they finish write the numbers of the definitions on the WB. and ask for some volunteers to write the word for each one. - check the answers and deal with any wrong ones.

Controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • to let the students practice listening for specific information

- give students HO with questions from listening ex1 - The students will listen and find the question that the interviewer does not ask. - take a general FB.

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • to practice listening for details

- Tell the students they will listen again and write notes of Katy's answers . ask ICQs - students check their answers in pairs - Students check on the answer key on the wall.

Freer speaking practice (5-7 minutes) • to enhance students' fulency

- Put students in pairs - one student will pay Katy and the other will be her fiend to give her some advice. Ask ICQs monitor without interrupting. - take some general FB about the best advice.
