To provide ss practice in reading for gist and speaking for fluency and accuracy. Also to review/clarify and practice lexis related to talking about facts and opinions.
Procedure (45 minutes)
T writes information media on the board, put ss in pairs/small groups to discuss what they know about it, then build up list of information sources on the board with the ss. Then ask which ones they trust and why. Material: HO ex.1
Ss read the first sentence of the text and say what they know about wikipedia. Then they read the whole text to match the summaries to the paragraphs Ss peer check before open class feedback. Material: HO 1 ex.2
Ss read the questions and find the answers in the article. Ss peer check before open class feedback. Material: HO 2 ex 3
Ss find words and expressions in the article with the meaning Ss peer check before open class feedback. Material: HO 2 ex 4
Speaking preparation: Ss read the questions and ask T about any words they are unsure about. Then they complete the questions and prepare their answers. Speaking personalisation: Ss ask and answer the questions in groups. Material: HO 2 ex.5
T praise ss for use of good language, give FB on what ss spoke about and correct errors made by them be it in meaning, form, pronunciation or accuracy by writing out the errors on w/b and elicit the corrections.
