Procedure (31-42 minutes)
T : " hello everyone, today I am going to be your teacher for your first functional language lesson ." "Let's start." SHOW PICTURES OF MY POWER POINT ANNOTATE A FEW OF THOSE PHOTOS & ASK : T:"Do you think those people are interested about what the other person is saying?" "It looks like they are." T:"Why?" "From their facial expressions & from the person saying " tell me more"
T : " Now, i am going to show you a text, and you will have to answer to a few questions on your own." SHOW TEXT ON THE PPT. T:" For how long are you going to work on this task?" S:"For 3 minutes" T:"Are you going to work alone or with someone?" S: "Alone" T: "Right here re the answers from the form" SHOW THE ANSWERS AND REVIEW THEM QUICKLY
T: "Now, we are going to have a look at some interaction sentences." "I will put you into breakout rooms for 2 minutes and you will have to guess if those interactions express interest or not . (OPENING BREAK OUT ROOMS ) STUDENTS BACK AFTER 2 MINUTES SHOWING ANSWERS QUICKLY . ELICIT T "Why those sentences are showing us interest ?" "Is showing interest always positive?"
QUICK DEFINITION OF SHOWING INTEREST. ELICIT SHOWING SOME PHRASES SHOWING INTEREST. T:" Are those phrases expressing interest ?" "Why?" T: "Let’s go over some of these phrases together." “ I was in Houston last week” “ Really?! Tell me more" "Any sound linkage? How do you pronounce it? "Where is the stress in really ?"Pronounce it. surround WASI and ask students to repeat after me . (2 students) T:" is there any assimilation in this sentence ? "I finished cleaning" "yes , in finished." T: "Do I pronounce it like ˈfɪn.ɪʃt/ or " finishid?" 2-3 students to repeat . T:"Where is the pic of the intonation in this Q-A ?" : GREAT ! "I have repaired your car." "Seriously?!" T" Where is the stress in " seriously" "on the first syllable." Modal . 2-3 students repeat after me the whole sentence. "That's awful" T:" Where is the sound linkage here ?" In between that's and awful . T:" Where is the stress in awful ?" "on the first syllable" T modals and the whole class repeat the whole sentence.
