Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification, review and practice of the present simple questions
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily routine.
Procedure (35-52 minutes)
- T tries to elicit from Ss about where he works , at what time he comes to school and how he comes here.
- T pre-teaches some vocabulary (collocations) about daily routines to help Ss using them while talking about daily routines and motivate Ss to compose sentences. e.g: have = eat breakfast/dinner have = drink a cup of tea/coffee have = take a shower
-T asks Ss to work in pairs and tell their partners about where they work, at what time they go, and how they go. (T encourages them to use the frequency words; every day, often, sometimes, never)
- Listening for gist; T plays the recording once and makes Ss listen and write down the questions. In pairs, Ss check their answers. T motivates them to give FB. Ss listen again and check their answers. - Listening for details: Ss listen to the same recording and write the answers of the three questions. Then, Ss work in groups of 3 or 4 to check their answers. Ss listen and check their answers.
-T writes the three questions on WB and tries to elicit the meaning of the question words: where= place (school, bank, home, airport) when=time (at 7:00 am, in the evening, on Thursday) how=the means (by train/car/bus, on foot) -T shows the form of the question using these question words: Q-word + do+ you+ verb(inf)+ (C)? T shows Ss how to pronounce these words (alone & in a question)
- T gives Ss handouts containing Yes/No questions to be re-written using the Q-words "where, when, how". Ss work in pairs and check their answers. After taking FB from Ss, T may show the answers on the WB.
If there is enough time, T will give Ss cards with some questions and have them mingle with each other practicing TL.
