Procedure (27-34 minutes)
The teacher greets the students and asks some daily questions. She talks about the sit-com series and TV show "Friends", and also takes comments from students. She opens a scene from Friends in which characters are bargaining to buy a ring in a store.
After watching the video, the teacher asks three questions about the video; -What are Phoebe and Chandler doing in the video? -What do they need to buy the ring? -What else can we do if we do not have enough money to buy something we want? The teacher tries to elicit some words from students. After asking the questions, she gives the target vocabulary, and she teaches them with their collocations.
Students are expected to work in pairs. The teacher asks students to ask and answer the questions to one another in the 2a section of the book for three minutes. Questions: -When do shops have sales in your country? When is the biggest sales season? -What kinds of products do people buy in the sales? Then the teacher asks what they have talked about. After that, the teacher asks students to read the first paragraph and guess the gist of the text.
The teacher asks students to read the whole text individually. After that, she opens the QR code of Mentimeter for true/false activity. Students are expected to answer the questions on their mobile phones. After each question, the teacher checks the answers and asks for justification for the false sentences.
Students are expected to do the questionnaire in the 2c section on their own for two minutes. Then, the teacher asks students to swap their books with their pairs and look at the results she showed on the board. After that, students are supposed to share the results with their pairs and ask them whether they agree with the result. At the end, the teacher can ask students to share the results with the class.
The teacher shows six sentences from the Grammar section part A. She asks students to guess which of the sentences are past simple and which ones are present perfect. Then she asks them to complete the rules with time expressions in the 4c section of the book
Students are expected to play a game named "find someone who" for three minutes. The teacher asks students to find someone who has done for each thing in the grid (in the 5b section). Students are supposed to wander around the classroom to find people and use "Have you ever..." while asking questions. After the game is over, the teacher asks them what was the most interesting thing they heard during the game. Lastly, the teacher asks students what they have learned in this lesson and takes one word from each student, and summarizes the things covered.
