To introduce and practice functional language for showing, giving and responding to advice.
Subsidiary Aims

To identify tone, body language, facial expressions when asking or giving advice.

To learn some useful expressions to show, give and respond to advice.
Procedure (34-40 minutes)
The class will start by discussing the following questions: 1 What types of problem do people often ask for advice about? 2 Who was the last person you asked for advice? What did you ask them about? Did their advice help you? 3 When did you last give someone advice? What was it about? Did he/she take your advice? Why? /Why not?
After the discussion, a video will be shown. They students will be able to recognize tone, body language and facial expression when asking and giving advice. As they watch the video, the students will complete some sentences. Also, some ICQ´s will be asked to check students understand the instructions.
During this stage, the teacher will guide the students through questions to understand meaning, form and pronunciation. MEANING: the teacher will show the following sentences: I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried talking to him about it? Yes, you could be right. FCQ´s Does the word "sorry" expresses concern? Does the question show that is providing advice? Does the last sentence show an answer to an advice? FORM: the teacher will show three columns with sentences that show concern, give and respond to advice. The structure and register will be analyzed. PRONUNCIATION: finally, the teacher will show some sentences with the stress marked for students to repeat .
After, the students will be requested to answer True or False to some statements. This activity will be developed individually and then students will compare and share their answers.
To finish the lesson, the teacher will encourage the students to pair up and discuss the real-life situations shown in a WordWall activity. One of the students will assume the role of giving advice and the other answering to it. Then, they will switch.
