In this lesson students will learn about verbs followed by prepositions as a collocation.

  • To provide clarification on verbs prepositions collocations.

  • To provide fluency and practice on the use of verb prepositions collocations.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Google slides to show pictures where people are doing things. T will demo using the first picture, the verbs are: 1. talk to 2. pick up 3. listen to 4. pay for Ss will work for 2 minutes in BOR and then come back for quick OCFB

Exposure to verbs prepositions collocations (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation between 2 friends

T share link to google forms doc T gives instructions Ss will read a conversation between 2 friends and they will answer 2 questions. They have 1 minute to read and another minute to answer in teams in BOR ICQ are we going only to read or to read and then answer? After OCFB How do you know it's between 2 friends? How do you know they are talking about future plans?

Highlighting (2-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language by identifying sentences using verb prepositions collocations

T will share google slides doc where they will identify sentences using verb preposition collocations T will demo ICQ is this individual work? T divides Ss in BOR they have 2 minutes Come back for OCFB FCQ How many verb collocations are there in the conversation.

Clarification (7-13 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will share screen where there are 4 sentences with verb prepositions T will demo on identifying form (verb + preposition) and to match the image illustrating the meaning of the verb ICQ are we only identifying verbs + prepositions or also matching pictures? T divides ss in BOR OCFB T elicits intonation and choral pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will share google forms doc where they will fill in the blanks individually ICQ: Is this individual or in group? OCFB

Free Practice (8-11 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will show a list of verb prepositions so they can talk about their responsibilities or plans in the future using verb preposition T will demo and ask students to share their answers. DEC
