Description

In this lesson students are going to learn about past simple through PPP in the context of holiday. We start the class by talking about our last weekend and how we spent it. We will have the clarification of Past Simple tense and the lesson will be followed by a discussion about the students' best holiday.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to start the class by talking about the the way I spent last weekend mentioning the thing that I did.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my students to talk about their weekend and the things they did.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some of my students' sentences on the board in the correct past simple form.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and I will ask my students to if the sentences are about the past, present, or future. (past). Are the actions completed? (Yes). Can I mention the exact time that they happened? (Yes). I will elicit the structure from the students by asking them about the roll of the words and the way that I have changed the verbs. (adding ed or using irregular verbs). The pronunciation of the verbs "said", "read", "saw" will be covered as well.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise a on page 120 in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers together.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are going to be divided into groups of 4 and they will talk about their best holiday ever in 8 minutes. Feedback will be given at the end if needed.
