Description

names of countries and a few other vocabulary items. Students will talk about where they live. Finishes up with them writing basic information in full sentences.

Main Aims

  • To provide names of countries, + house car flat. some opposites big small, good bad, same different
  • To provide product writing practice of a giving personal information.

Subsidiary Aims

  • I hope ss will have some moments when they realise they already know something of English, maybe from school long ago, or from city life.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

which country questions - views from the internet to establish the countries Turkey, China, Russia England, USA

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

exercise where ss talk about where particular cities are. T gives a handout for pairwork.

Highlighting (4-6 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

quick gap fill which shows the forms of the verb To be. Connecting with the first lesson.

exposure (3-5 minutes) • to provide target language for the writing.

Clarification (4-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Give out handout which replaces page 9 from the coursebook. T reads out text about John try some YES / no, true / false questions. SS will need true / false to do the exercise with Olga

have or live (4-7 minutes) • to distinguish these two verbs - mainly the form rather than the meaning

students do the gap fill on the same sheet. The difference is that living in a car would be quite unusual.

Practice with listening (5-8 minutes) • Olga provides a model of what students may be able to produce.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • ss produce some writing that encapsulates what was in the lesson and gives scope for people to add

Answer the written question. If there is time ss can also go on to "tell another student". The final phase in the coursebook. If there is very little time this could be done for homework.
