Procedure (69-101 minutes)
from the previous lesson, elicit few sentences about the relationship between people in the family tree on p 16 e.g. Bill's Pat's husband who is Chris to Pat? Who is Sally to Emma? Who is Kate to Sally?
The students are going to check the sentences and decide which one is true or false, they also have to correct the wrong sentences. first individually for 2 minutes then check in pairs for 2 minutes then feedback: teacher nominates groups to give answers for 2 minutes
from the previous ex: Kate is Sally's cousin. now what is 's in this sentence? Kate is HER cousin. Who's cousin Kate is? Sally's, Kate is her cousin. take a pen from a student: This is Kubra's Pen. This is her pen. now the sentences written on the board: Bill is Lisa's father. 's=? Kate's her sister.'s=? She's got a brother.'s=? Kate's Sally's aunt.?? drill pronunciation.
Ex 4a: students put the 's in the right order. in pairs for 4 minutes. hand out the answers check the answers together. Ex 4b: students decide about the meaning of the 's in pairs for 4 minutes. hand out the answers check the answers together. Now write Students books. actors faces. how am I going to put the 's here? it's going to be ugly therefore: Students' books and actors' faces.
different pairs: Kate wants to show her new boyfriend Tim some photos. look at the pictures who are these people? discuss in groups for 3 minutes
First the listening and then the students put the pictures in order then peer-check and then feedback
First look at the Ex9 what you can remember in pairs? (give them the hand-out) for 2-3 minutes now listen and check FB
write your name and the names of the five people in your family on a piece of paper. think of what you can say about these people. for example my cousin Nurollah is 35, he's married, he is a simitci etc. 2 minutes now swap papers without talking to your partner and make questions to ask about your partner's family. Who is Murat? Is He married? Has he got any children?
put some of the wrong sentences on the WB and make the students correct them, drill some of them.
