Time Lesson
Elementary (A1+) level

Description

In this lesson, students learn about the vocabulary of time, asking and telling the time.

Materials

Abc A real clock, Put in order handout, Match the photos handout, Fill in the gaps handout,

Main Aims

  • To introduce/review and gevive Ss practice in telling the time.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give Ss practice in listeniğng for specific information and practice speaking for accuracy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Showing the Ss a big clock to elicit the topic and eliciting some of time vocabulary.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

After eliciting the time vocabulary, highlighting the key times to show o'clock, past, quarter past/to, half past and etc.

Task - 2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Showing pictures of different times on different clocks to students. Asking them to work in paris to say what they are (2a) , match the photos to times in pairs (2b) and to say times in a different way mathcing the times to photos (2c).

Task- 3 (8-10 minutes) • To practice Ss with the new vocabulary and phrases they learn.

Asking Ss to work in pairs to write the times of the photos they are handed. First giving Ss peer check and then getting Ss to write the answersn on wb again to check written accuracy.

Task- 4 (3-5 minutes) • Making Ss to listen and hear about the conversations about time and also recognize them.

Listening three conversations and matching them to three of the clocks from Exercise 3. It can be a group check.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

By doing Ex.5, Ss will will in the gaps with right question and answer forms (5a) and with right prepositions (5b).

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

By doing Ex. 6, handing out the drawings of 6 clocks, which I have already drawn, and asking students to work in pairs to write the times of the clock under the drawings. After this, it will be a teacher check.

Extra Exercise (3-5 minutes) • To practice more telling the times by playing a game as a competition.

If there is time, I will make Ss play a board game by drawing two clock on wb and make them compete with each other.
