Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of future tense will and won't in the context of decisions, offers and promises.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation using auxiliaries will and won't in the context of decisions, offers, and promises.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask ss if they know the song by Whitney Houston "I will always love you" then T will play song for 1:08 minutes and ask them what the person is saying ss will go to bor to discuss the next questions. What type of structure it is (order, question, promise...) What auxiliary/auxiliaries are used? Share conclusion with all the group.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will share the link of Forms document where students will see 3 conversations and they will have to choose which type of sentence that is: offer, promise, decision. T will demo and the ss will go to for to discuss the answers (no need to submit). ICQ Are we going to read only or read and answer? Go back main room to discuss answers. FCQ How do you know it's offer, promise, decision?

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss go back to the same forms doc and answer the question. T will demo and put ss in BOR bring everyone back to main room and share answers. FCQ What auxiliaries are used? What are the sentences using that auxiliary?

Clarification (8-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Once again Ss go back to the forms doc to part number 3 T instructs to answer the questions in the form in BOR Go back to main room and share answers Ask the auxiliaries for all pronouns Go over pronunciation and stress I will GO to the doctor but I WON'T go right now. I WILL help you finish your homework! I will STOP working so much. Is the teacher using contractions? Is it possible to use contractions? DEMO contractions and ask ss to repeat.

Controlled Practice (5-9 minutes) • To concept check

T shares link to a new forms doc with 5 questions T will explain the procedure and ss will answer in BOR They'll have 6 minutes for that ICQ how many minutes? Is this activity for meaning or to complete sentences? Come back to main room to discuss answers Ss read the complete sentences with correct structure. Practice contractions with students.

Free Practice (8-11 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
