Procedure (31-41 minutes)
Introduce Ss to the topic through personalization. Ask Ss concept checking questions.
Ss will teach each other the items in a game called 'hot Potato'. Give each student a picture and tell them to check they know what it is by looking at the name on the back. Ss mingle showing the pictures to each other. Ss should say what the illness is. If they don't know or are wrong, they should be given the the picture so they can learn it. If they do, the S should keep the picture and try to give it to another S.If the picture comes back to them and they can't remember it, they should take it back. The aim is to try and give away all the pictures.
Ss mime the illness and get Ss to call out. During the practice stage, monitor for errors, do delayed error correction.
Ss will look at some more words related to illnesses. Ss in groups of 3 match the words into synonyms/ definitions. Early-finishers can peer check. Take general feedback and deal with any queries. Drill some of the trickier items for pronunciation, e.g. symptoms, throbbing, ache.
Give Ss ex 1 from the Student's book, and they work in pairs to fill the gaps. Ss will check at the w/b when they finish. Deal with any problems. Ss in pairs dicsuss the questions in ex 2. Monitor and then take some feedback .
