Description

In this lesson the students are going to listen to two people talking about five most dangerous animals in North America.

Materials

Abc Amarican English File 2 students' book
Abc Audio file (America English File 2)

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about 5 most dangerous animals in North America

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of Animal related words.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students if they like animals or they are scared of them (if yes why?). And I will show page 70 of the book and ask the question 2a.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be informed about the meaning of the following vocabularies used in the listening. Foot (measurement) - dangerous - swim - surfing - ocean

While-Reading/Listening #1 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The students will listen to track and try to answer the question: What is the order of the 5 most dangerous animals (2b) The answers will be checked with whole class. Students will need to support their ideas if they come up with different answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will ask the students to read the blue text and then listen to the track again and fill in the blanks (2c). Then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be asked to talk to each other in groups about these dangerous animals if they have seen any of them or had a bad experience with them or any other animal.
