Description

In this lesson, students will be exposed to some vocabulary related to animals and how to categorize them into reptiles, mammals and insects. the lesson will start by discussion some questions about animals, then will present the vocabulary using visual aids and elicit from the students which category they belong. In pairs students will have a multiple choose activity and then will have have another activity where they have to describe some animals and which category they belong. Also, students will read an article for specific information, finally the whole class will discus what they think about the information they read in the article.

  • To provide the studnest a chance to pracise reading for specific information in tne context of nature's best.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To get the students attention and introduce the target language.

In pairs Ss will discuss these questions: 1- which animals do people keep as pets in your country? 2- has your family ever had any pets? If so, what? 3- do you think fish make good pets? Why? Why not?

Vocabulary (10-15 minutes) • To expose the Ss to the TL

using visuals on the board, elicit from the Ss what they know about the animals in the pictures and which category they belong to. Will use some CCQs in this stage: mammals are animals having eggs or babies? Insects are animals with fur or they have wings sometimes?

controlled activity multiple choose qusetion (5-8 minutes) • To check the Ss understanding to the TL

Ss will be give handout, in pairs they will have to choose the right answer for each question, then they will check their answers with the others. feedback with the whole class.

freer activity (5-8 minutes) • To give the Ss a chance to use the TL in a meaningful context.

Ss will be given a handout, it contains pictures of animals in pairs they have to describe them using the examples from the previous activity.

reading (5-10 minutes) • to give Ss a chance to read for specific information

Ss will read an article about fish, they will have to answer some questions related to the article, they will check their answers together then with the whole class.
