Illustrated map of Istanbul on the w/b + "an exciting, an interesting, a relaxing ... day out in Istanbul". T will make sure that the Ss know the meaning of the words by pre-teaching and checking. The Ss have 2 minutes to think where to have a ______ day out in Istanbul in pairs.
T will divide the class in groups A and B and give group A a flyer about Rahmi M. Koç Museum and group B about Princes' Island (Büyükada). T will pre-teach essential vocabulary from pictures on the flyers. Students will answer questions in HO's 1 & 2 by scanning the text and discussing in small groups. Time limit 5 minutes. T will change the grouping so that the Ss are in pairs of A and B. Ss will ask swap information and check the answers together (A has B's answers, and vice versa).
Juho, Cason and Amina perform a sample conversation on the topic of planning a day out in Istanbul. T will put pairs back to back and give each pair different gapped versions of sample conversation. Pairs will read the conversation and fill in the gaps. In the end they will check together that they have written the correct forms.
T will give small groups Planning a Day Out HO and they fill do the exercises 1–4. Whole class feedback on w/b.
Students will read the conversation (ex. 5) on Planning A Day Out HO and choose the correct verb forms. Check first in pairs and then on w/b.
Depending on the time, 1. Students will read the conversation on Palnning a Day Out HO (ex. 5) in groups of three OR 2. Students will ask and answer questions from the flyers in pairs using What do you want to...?, Would you like to...?, Where would you like to...? Do you want to...?, etc. (Question formats on w/b) Delayed error correction if time. If there's no time, it's OK as the Ss will practice plenty of speaking in the next lesson.
