Description

In this lesson, students will match words with their pictures. They are going to learn 4 words for the reading pessage. Then they will guess the things 4 people in the classroom are going to do or did. Then, hey have to look at a photo and think what the passage is going to be about. They are going to read the passage and see if their guesses were right. They read the text again and complete the table with the correct dates, places and numbers. Afterwards they are supposed to write something related to the text. In groups they are going to read another passage and have to fill in the gaps accordingly. They also have to do a true false activity. Finally, they build up their own sentences about themselves and talk with their groups.

Main Aims

  • Practicing fluency speaking in the context of Lets go by tuk-tuk.

Procedure

Warmer (2-3 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage students

Teacher gives the students a handout where they have to match the words with their pictures. Students check their answers with their pairs. Teacher gives the students the correct answers.

Pre-Reading activity (5-8 minutes) • to prepare the students for the reading activity.

Teacher puts 4 pictures and 4 words on the board. Students have to come up to the board and try to match them. Then, teacher gives the students a handout. They have to read statements about 4 people they know. And guess whether the statements are true or false. Then, the students will get another handout from the teacher. The students are shown a picture about an article. The ss have to guess what the article it going to be about.

Gist Reading (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading

The students have to read the article to see if their guesses were true.

Specific Reading activity. (5-8 minutes) • Reading for specific information

The students have to read the article again and complete a table with the correct dates, places and numbers.

Post-Reading activity. (5-6 minutes) • to provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they have learned

Students are given a handout. They have to write their plans about what they are going to do with the tuk-tuk

Gist Reading 2 (2-3 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading.

Teacher puts the reading text on different places in the classroom. The students are given a a worksheet. They have to skim the text and fill in the gaps.

Detailed Reading 2 (3-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading activity.

Students have to read the text again and answer the T F questions.

Fluency speaking (4-7 minutes) • to provide the students with fluency speaking

The students are given a Handout. They have to think about the last time they visited a different town or city. They have to write 6-8 sentences. Then the ss talk to each other about it. Then students tell the class 2 things about the place they visites.
