Description

in this lesson, students learn about how to say years. They practise by drilling the years. There will be a listening activity about wedding anniversary. Sudents listen and answer some questtions. There will be a personalised speaking activity at the end.

Procedure

Vocabulary (wedding context) (3-5 minutes) • To introduce the vocabulary and elicit them from Ss

I show students a photo of a wedding party. I ask them questions about the photo and elicit some words such as (wedding, bride, groom, wedding anniversary) I start to tell them a story about the bride and the groom and put years on the board. I elicit the years from them just to test their knowledge then I correct the mistakes with them. At the end of the activity I ask them to repeat the years one more time before the next activity.

controlled practiice (3-5 minutes) • To practise the vocabulary through matching activity and drilling

I tell students they are going to listen and match. I show them an example on the board first. I play the recording. Students listen and match. I ask them to check the answers in pairs. Then I check with the whole class. After that I drill some years with students to help them pronounce them correctly.

Listening (7-9 minutes) • To provide practice on listening for specific information

I tell students they are going to listen to Rajeet talking to his friend about his wedding anniversary.They listen and choose the correct answer. I give them time first to read the sentenes then I play the recording. Students listen and choose the correct answer. I ask them if they want to listen again. After they finish I ask them to check their answers in pairs. Then I check with the whole class. I tell students they are going to listen one more time and answer questions from (1-6). I give them time first to read the questions then I play the recording. Students listen and answer the questions. I play the recording one more time if necessary. After they finish I ask them to check their answers in pairs. Then I check with the whole class. Incase students find it difficult to understand the recording or answer the questions, I give them the audioscript to read from it and answer.

Setting the context ( Indian wedding) & pre-discussion (2-4 minutes) • To introduce the topic for Ss and get them discuss before the listening activity

I show students a photo of an indian wedding. I ask them questions to elicit some information from them. I put them in pairs and ask them to discuss what they know about Indian weddings. I set a time limit of two minutes then I discuss with the whole class.

Role Play (5-7 minutes) • To get Ss practise the conversation and to focus on intonation

I put student in pairs (1,2) and tell them they are going to practise the conversation. for students 1 they are (Rajeet) and for students 2 they are (his friend). I demonstrate with a student first to help them recognise what intonation they should use. After they finish I ask them to switch roles and practise again. While they are working, I'll be monitoring and help them when neessary.

semi-controlled practice (personalised discussion) (3-5 minutes) • To get Ss to discuss some questions about wedding

I put students in pairs. I tell them they are going to ask each other questions. I give them handouts. While they are workiing, I'll be monitoring and taking notes on their mistakes. After they finish, I'll discuss these questions with them and correct their mistakes.

Freer activity (personalised speaking) (8-10 minutes) • To focus on fluencey and get students speak about their own weddings.

I sit on chair in front of studets. I ask them to close their eyes and remember their wedding day. I ask them to remember when and where their wedding was, the music, the food & drink, the people there. Then I ask them to open their eyes and write notes on the points I referred to. I give them two minutes to write notes Then I put them in groups of three and ask them to talk about their wedding day.While they're talking I'll be monitoring and provide help when necessary. After they finish, I dicusss with the whole class and correct some mistakes with them.
