Description

In this lesson which is following the theme of travel and the activities people do on a trip, Ss will learn how to book a hotel room through a phone conversation as well as comparing hotels and choosing the most suitable ones for their need. They will use a set of expressions to ask for the rate, length of stay and a lot more.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice on fluency in speaking on a phone conversation in the context of traveling

  • To provide clarification of holiday words, booking a room at hotel in the context of Traveling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask where they usually stay when go on a trip and what they expect from that place. Elicit the word "Hotel" and ask what are the advantages and disadvantages of staying at a hotel on a trip.

Setting the context (3-5 minutes) • Pre-teach vocabulary

Ss- in pairs match the vocabulary and definition and the new words with the pictures. (Exercises 1 and 2 on first HO.) Feedback: Check the answers in Open class and do some pronunciation practice.

Using vocab in context (5-8 minutes) • Activating and personalizing the vocabulary from previous section

Read and clarify the questions in ex. 3. Ss in pairs ask and answer the questions. Feedback: Can you share some of your partners answers with the class? Feedback on accuracy is advised as well.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students will go through the script of a phone conversation between a guest and a receptionist. They should put in order the scrambled sentences. Feedback: Listen to the audio file and check the answers. Drilling tasks anywhere necessary.

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Highlight the phrases and structures in the conversation. Ss in pairs role play the exact conversation in order to be ready for the upcoming task. Ss switch roles after doing it once Feedback: One pair runs the conversation to the class.

Productive Task(s) (10-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will sit back to back in groups of four desirably, subject to change based on the No, of Ss, though, they will have role cards A, B, C, D each where the the first to are tourists and the second two are receptionists at two different hotels. They have to call both hotels and decide which one they are going to stay in.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ask the tourists which hotel they chose and why. Give feedback on the pitfalls they had during the previous task.
