Procedure (30-42 minutes)
T will write six incomplete sentences starting with [s + was/were] on the board from the listening and ask if ss can remember them. Ss will talk in pairs to remember the rest of the sentences. Feedback: T asks for volunteers and gives a HO of each text to every three/four ss to check as a whole class.
T will erase some content words from the board to let ss personalise the sentences. Ss work in pairs to tell each other their own sentences. Feedback: T will ask for one or two ideas.
T will write/highlight the marker sentence "I was at the World Cup Final in Paris in 1998." and ask CCQs about the tense, together with a timeline. T will deconstruct the marker sentence through elicitation, and elicits different persons and the negative. T will drill the marker sentence, affirmative and negative, with regard to weak and strong pronunciations of "was" and "were".
T will give a HO of page 63, ex.3b and ss choose the correct answers. Feedback: Ss work in pairs to compare, followed by WCFB.
