To provide review, clarification and practice of sandwich related items in the context of bacon, ham, hot mustard, etc.
Procedure (31-46 minutes)
A very short, funny sandwich film will be shown just as a way to re-introduce the context from the previous lesson. After the video, Ss will be grouped according to the words, 'thick' and 'thin'. In their group, Ss will be asked to discuss whether or not Turkish "tost" is a sandwich, and give three reasons why. This will lead into the listening text about various sandwiches from around the world.
T will quickly use PowerPoint to review the vocabulary given in the previous lesson. Next, T will try to elicit new vocabulary words that are important for the listening activity.
Ss will listen to the text for the first time. They will be instructed to listen for the main idea of the story (Sandwiches from around the world). They will fill in the appropriate blank on their paper. If Ss need to listen twice, we will. Ss will quickly check their main ideas with others, then T will get brief W/C F/B.
Ss will listen to the text again, and be instructed to complete the empty blanks from the text, specifically the names and locations of each person speaking. Ss will check their work in their group, then W/C F/B.
Ss will listen to text again, but this time they will be required to provide the ingredients of each sandwich. Ss will cross-check, then W/C F/B.
Ss will be re-divided into two teams with "mustard" and "ketchup". Once the teams are clear, the game will be explained. T will read a modified version of the text, focusing on the sandwiches. Ss will race each other to build the sandwich being described, from the props on the table.
After the game, Ss will be paired and asked to discuss the following questions: 1. Which of the sandwiches would you like to try? 2. What are the most popular sandwiches in Turkey? 3. If time permits, T will give delayed F/B and error correction.
