Main Aims

To introduce and practice the functional exponents used to express introductory phrases that add emphasis in the context of likes and dislikes in a conversation between a husband and a wife with others in their house.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a short talk in the context of things the students like or dislike about anything or anyone.

To provide gist listening practice using a text " I did tell you!"
Procedure (45-45 minutes)
1- Teacher will write a question on the board "Do you like having people in your house? If yes what do you like about it? If no what do you dislike about it?". 2- Students will discuss this question in groups. 3- Teacher will listen to the students' answers.
1- Teacher will show the students a picture. 2- Teacher will tell the students the names of the husband and the wife and where they are in the picture to provide the context. 3-Teacher will ask the students to guess what the couple talk about. 4- Students will work in pairs. 5- Each pair will share their guessing with other pair. 6- Teacher will listen to the students guessing.
1- Teacher will ask the students to listen to the conversation. 2- Students will listen and check their guessing. 3- Students will check their guessing in pairs. 4- Teacher will give feedback about the students' guessing.
1- Teacher will give the students the conversation script. 2- Teacher will ask the students to underline the introductory phrases that add emphasis. 3- Teacher will monitor and check the students' answer with giving feedback. 4- Teacher will give the students another handout with the rules. 5- Teacher will ask the students to look to the introductory phrases and try to complete the rules. 6- Students will unfold the handout to check their answers. 7- Teacher will use CCQs to check the students understanding of the meaning. 8- Teacher will drill the introductory phrases that add emphasis chorally and individually. 9- Teacher will use backchaining drilling of the introductory phrases that add emphasis. 10- Teacher will focus on the word stress and intonation.
1- Teacher will give the students a handout with sentences. 2- Teacher will ask the students to rewrite the sentences with the words between the brackets. 3- Students will check the rules if they need to. 4- Students will check their answers with other pair. 5- Teacher will ask the students to walk around the class and check their answers on a paper stuck on the wall.
1- Teacher will give the students a handout with four introductory phrases. 2- Teacher will ask the students to complete to make sentences related to their life. 3- Students will share their answers in pairs. 4- Teacher will listen to some of the students sentences.
1- Teacher will divide the students into groups depending on the number of the students. 2- Teacher will ask the students to talk in groups about things they love or hate about anything or anyone in their life. 3- Teacher will monitor and write on a piece of paper the mistakes the students made in the target language. 4- Students will tell the teacher what they talked about. 5-Teacher will write the sentences on the board and check the correct ones with the students.
