Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about animals in the context of interview

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of animal related words in the context of interview

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will elicit some ideas for the most dangerous animal or insect and then the least dangerous and what's the reason. I don't tell Ss if they are right.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The Ss will be informed about the meaning of the new vocabulary and phrases by trying to match the meaning of them with the vocabularies and phrases individually. Then will check their answers in pairs and then the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will tell Ss they should write the names of the animals or insects in the headings and not to worry about the rest of the chart in listening part on page on page 70. I will tell them that they are going to hear the answers in an interview, but that the answers will be given in the reverse order, i.e., the least dangerous of the five will be first. The audio will be played for Ss to listen and check. After that, they will check the answers loudly in pairs. If there was any misunderstanding, I would clarify it.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I tell Ss they are going to listen to the interview again and this time they need to complete the facts in the charts with one or two words only. They get to compare in pairs, and then I play the audio again if necessary.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-14 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will be asked to talk to each other in groups of 3 or 4 about their own or others' experiences with dangerous encounters with animal. Each Student has two minutes to talk.
