Description

In this lesson, I will clarify past tense question form, practice speaking for accuracy. I will set the context by introducing the place I went on last summer. I will get them to ask questions and elicit the question and answer form of past tense. It is followed by doing activities and speaking for accuracy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will make an introduction by asking questions about the place I went on holiday last summer.I will get sts to discuss about it in pairs.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will get them to talk and describe how they can ask a question. I will explore the class level and see if they already know the question form of past tense. I will put my presentation.on the WB

Clarification (15-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will elicit the meaning, form and pronunciation of the past simple questions form. I will get sts to write the questions: Did you go to Assos last summer? or Did you go to Bodrum last summer . Then, I will elicit the short answer form: No, I didn`t Yes, I did. Then, I will elicit the long answer form: Yes, I went to Assos last summer. No I didn`t go to Bodrum last summer.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will hand out the activity 1. It is a yes/no exercise. I will drill : ● ● Did you go to Bodrum last summer? ● No, I didn’t. ● No, I didn’t go to Bodrum last summer. ● ● Yes, I went to Assos last summer. I will hand out activity 2. With this activity I will check understanding of sts from past tense.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will show three pictures and ask sts to make questions. I will do it with WC and hand out activity 3. I will do it with WC. Next, I will hand out the activity 4 for speaking practice.

Practice the language (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with challenging activity

I will hand out the last activity which shows the common mistakes that sts make. I will do it with WC.
