Description

In this lesson, the students will learn three expressions with "look". At first, they will read a text about people telling their traveling stories and answer questions about it. Then, they will be exposed to listening activity related to the same text that concentrates on more details. Later, they will find the different meanings of the "look" expressions, and practice using them in writing and in speaking.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of expressions with "look" in the context of future plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about looking for a job in the context of travel

Procedure

Warm-up (2-3 minutes) • To prepare students to talk about plans

The teacher asks the students "why are you here?" The students will give some answers related to learning English for different reasons.

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To have sts brainstorm for the reasons of travelling

The teacher writes on the WB "TRAVEL" and ask the students why they would like to travel. The students discuss the idea in pairs and go to the board to write their answers. Feedback: T checks sts' answers as a WC.

Pre-reading (4-5 minutes) • To prepare sts for the text and make it accessible

The teacher will show the students a the pictures and the headings on the text sheet and asks the students why Rima is traveling. Sts work in pairs and discuss. Feedback: T elicits some ideas about Rima in the picture.

Reading for the gist (6-8 minutes) • To provide sts with a reading task that helps them understand the main idea of the text

-The teacher will hand the students the "Where are you going?" sheet. Sts will skim the text and and put the interrogative statements in their correct place. Feedback: sts check their answers in pairs and write them on WB after they finish. -Extension: if time permits, sts role play. Student A asks the questions, student B answers.

Reading for details (3-4 minutes) • To provide students whith a close reading of the text to find the exact meaning of vocabulary

The students will read the text again looking for the three expressions of "look" and then match them with their correct meanings in exercise B. Feedback: sts match the definitions on WB.

Vocabulary (4-5 minutes) • To provide sts whith vocabulary practice

The teacher hands the students the "complete the sentences" sheet. Sts complete the sentences, in pairs, as stated in the instruction. Feedback: sts write the answers on WB.

Controlled Speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide sts with a speaking task to check their accurate use of the vocabulary

The students will work in groups of three or four to tell their partners: - something you are looking forward to - something you often have to look for in the morning - somebody or something that you look after The students will have these instructions on pieces of paper. Feedback: T monitors and corrects any mistakes with the "look" expressions.
