Who's a fussy eater?
Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, students will practise their listening skills and grammar. The lesson will start with a short lead in to set the context and T will pre-teach vocabulary that is used in the listening. The students will first listen for gist and the next acitivity will be listening for details. Afterwards, the teacher will elicit the grammar used in the listening from students and do some activities that are related to that grammar.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about a fussy eater in the context of food.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of some and any in the context of countable and uncountable nouns.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

- T will personalize the context by talking about what she likes and what she doesn't like. - T will use the word 'picky'. - T will make the students watch a video to elicit 'fussy eater'.

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T will project the presentation. - T will use visuals to elicit vocabulary - T will elicit the part of speech - T will ask CCQs - T will drill

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening task.

- T will ask students to look at the picture and try to guess who they are and what is the relationship between them - T will tell Ss who they are - T will give instructions 'Listen to their conversation and answer the questions' - T will give HOs - T will play the recording - T will play the recording again - T will pair the Ss and ask them to check - WC feedback

WhileListening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed listening tasks

- T will give instructions 'Listen again and fill in the gaps' - T will give the HOs - T will play the recording again - T will play the recording again if necessary - T will ask students to check their answers with their partner - T will ask students to come to the board and write the answers

Post-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T will try to elicit the meaning of the grammar - T will try to elicit the form of the grammar - T will project the form on the board - T will give instructions 'Complete the sentences with some and any' - T will give HOs - T will project the answers on the board
