Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide new vocabularies and have students speak about the things they like, dislike, love and hate
Subsidiary Aims
-
Speaking - After providing new vocabularies have students ask questions about their favorites.
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
T give 9 pictures to the SS and ask them to write one word about the picture. The aim is to understand how much the SS know about these pictures and vocabularies. Then, T write numbers 1 to 9 on WB and ask SS their words about the pictures. T can give pronunciation of the words if necessary.
T points each picture and models and drills the pronunciation of each word related to the picture. After completing modeling and drilling, T sticks the flash-cards next to the related number, then, shows the stress of the word. Next to the activity words (visiting new places, flying, dancing, etc) T writes that they are activities and notes that these words are also corresponding verbs. T reminds SS that TV requires the preposition 'on'. T asks the difference between film and movie.
T gives HOs to SS so that they match facial expressions with likes & dislikes phrases. Then, SS write what they like, don't like, hate and love in the HOs using the phrases they have learned in the previous stages. T points out that we use verb + -ing after love, like and hate; also we use plural nouns after like, hate and love as we are talking about things in general.
SS talk to their pairs about their likes and dislikes using the phrases they have learned in previous stages and ask questions to their pairs.
T asks SS 'What's your favorite ...?' questions. T tells that they will play the game called 'Find Your Twin' and asks them what 'twin' means. After clarifying the word twin, T gives instructions of the game. After answering the questions, SS will stand up and find the other student who likes, loves, hates or doesn't like same things asking the same questions in the HO.
