Procedure (44-58 minutes)
Ss are asked to identify the sport corresponding to a named picture of sports equipment from a HO. In pairs. Monitor to check how well they're doing, and when most ss are done. T forms groups of three, ss are asked to write down as many different sports as they can think of in 90 seconds tops. The group with the longest list will read it out loud.
Ss are given are short text describing football and are asked find out the sport about which the text is about. FB will focus on the clues which helped or could've helped the ss.
What does the Olympic flag look like? Show on PPt; ask for meaning of each color. "Do you watch the Olympics?" , "In threes answer the Qs on the WB" Monitor for pronunciation and interesting answers FB: Ask each question to a different st.
T shows title completion options on WB. And shows text, and where it is on the sheet. Complete the title with one of these. ICQs: How many can you choose? 1. What do you need to complete? The title. T advises that ss have three minutes to complete the task. Giving out HO. Warning after 2 mins. Ss check in pairs FB asks for their answers and why?
Ss are asked to read the first short story only. FB is done on the first to verify that they understand. If they seem not to know the answer T asks: "why?... did they take away his medal? Why do you THINK? Then ss are left to do the three remaining short stories. They are asked to work in pairs for the writing of the sentences.
In groups of 4 ss are asked to discuss which of those 4 people do they think of as a loser? If time allows students are then asked to talk about the possibility of Olympics in Istanbul. Why?
