In this lesson students are going to listen to a radio program about inventions.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about the mothers of inventions in the context of women inventions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of talking about inventions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will be asked if they know any scientist or famous inventor? most of them will probably give male names and what they invented. (Alexander Graham Bell _ Thomas Edison ..) The students will try to answer the exercise ''a'' on page 76. they should work in pairs for 3 minutes and after that they will listen to track and answer the gaps individually. answers will be checked with whole class.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be informed about the meaning of the following vocabularies that will be use in the audio and pictures by answering questions related to the topic. (Windshield wipers _ White-out _ Invention _ Disposable diapers_ ''Proof''{bullet-water..})

While-Reading/Listening #1 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will be asked to read the question on Page 76 exercise ''b'' and then the audio file will be played again. the students need to check their answers in pairs for 2 minutes then we will check the answers with the whole class. students will need to support their ideas if they come with different answers.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will be asked to read the question on Page 76 exercise ''c'' and then the audio file will be played again. the students need to check their answers in pairs for 2 minutes then we will check the answers with the whole class. students will need to support their ideas if they come with different answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (7-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be asked to do the exercise ''d'' in page 76 which they need to talk to each other in groups 2 or 4 for 5 minutes and then they can share their ideas with whole class
