Description

In this lesson Students learn about different types of clothing through vocabulary words. Students will read a text about three different people from different countries to see what they think about clothes through shopping.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about In fashion in the context of shopping for clothes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of different types of clothing in the context of shopping for clothes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Elicit Greengrocer's, Chemist's, Supermarket, Department Stores, mention "Boyner", elicit what we buy there. -Make sure to tell them that the word "clothes" is always in plural form. It cannot be used in a singular form. -Elicit what you wearing.

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Have Ss tick items of clothing that they know from the handout (Ex.1, V5.6) -Elicit different types of clothing by using pictures on the WB. -Have Ss do handout(Ex. V5.6, Student Book Pg.132), Discuss in pairs -In groups, handout answer key and the Ss check their answers. -Write usually, sometimes, never on the board , then draw a line and and on opposite ends we have always(100%), never(0%) and sometimes is (50%) , usually is (90%). -Give an example on the board with all three. -Pass out the handout with the table of (usually, sometimes, never) -Tell them to put in sentences, then discuss in groups. (FB-one sentence from each group). -Put up pics of (jeans-shoes-socks-shorts-boots-trousers-trainers). Show how "jeans,shorts, trousers" are always in the plural form- and "shoes, a shoe-socks, a sock-boots, a boot, trainers, a trainer", and we use a pair of with both types of plural nouns.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Write the title on the board- Ask the Ss what they think the text is about. Write their ideas on the board after they discuss in pairs. -Tell the Ss that they need to read quickly, just enough time to find the answer of the question(title). Divide the class into three groups, pass out the paragraphs, let Ss read individually to check answers, and see if the answers are correct. (Gist reading) - Get the Ss to turn the texts face down again, pass out the handout (T and F), the Ss try to answer without looking, then they read the text again in detail and answer. -They discuss in groups , handout the answer keys and have them check for answers. -

While-Reading #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

-Re-group the Ss (All 1's, 2's in a group), (3's and 4's in a group), (5's and 6's in a group). tell them that each group have a different text, and the answers are different. Have them share, and compare. -Have them match the paragraph's 1-3 to the people in the photos(Ex.5) -Pass out Ex.6, from Student book. In pairs they match the sentences to the text (while looking at the picture on the WB-using projector). -Write the answers on the WB. Give FB

Post-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss work in pairs to discuss the following questions in the handout(Ex. 7, pg.45). Get FB
