Description

In this lesson students will learn functions related to agreement and disagreement through discovery and teacher's clarification. The whole lesson will be based on speaking skill. SS will be engaged through different activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of language used for having a debate,By the end of this lesson SS will be prepared to express agreement and disagreement through discovery. they will be able to communicate in different activities with T's instructions. in the context of stereotypes. men and women

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a debate in the context of stereotypes. men and women

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To show a picture of a debate, and set an activity in which the classroom will be divided in three areas, agree, disagree and partly agree. T will give Ss different statements so they will choose their area and explain their reasons though explanation is not the aim.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The context is a passage, a dialogue. The T will ask their opinion on that passage and clarify if they face any problem.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

first students will be asked to highlight the sentences and after that the T will highlight agreement and disagreement functions on another slide of the PowerPoint she prepared.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher will give students a list of agreement and disagreement functions and ask questions so she will be able to give real life examples.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

This part will be a drilling practice in which Ss will express agreement and disagreement with different emotions such as sad, happy and shy. Also they will whisper it and say it loud as well.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To help them to use these functions fluently.

The teacher will divide them in four groups and give each group a stereotype to discuss. after five minutes two of each group should stand up and one should sit. The students who stand up should walk to other's group (the person who sits) and discuss about their conclusion.
