To introduce and give practice in the use of 'How many' and 'How much' through the context of 'Renting a Flat'

To provide students with listening for gist and specific information tasks through the context of 'Renting a Flat'
Procedure (33-45 minutes)
Ss listen to How much How many song. T elicits the topic of the lesson and writes it on the board.
Each student gets a strip of paper with one question, supposed to begin with how much or how many, on it. As the question word is omitted, Ss are to decide which word is the right choice for their sentence and go and stay at the right side of the board with how much or how many. One student from each group explains their decision. T asks CCQs Do we use How much with the words that we can count? – No, we don’t Do we use How many with the words that we can count? – Yes, we do Do we use How much with the words that we cannot count? – Yes, we do Ss take their seats and ask and answer their questions in pairs.
Ss get the HO and fill in the blanks with how much and how many to complete the questions. Ss ask and answer the questions 2,7,8,12,15,16 in pairs. T monitors and collects their mistakes to elicit corrections from the Ss Ss do one more fill in gaps with how much or how many task. This time the questions are about their home (ex5, pg 41) Ss ask and answer the questions in pairs For FB T asks the Ss if there were any surprising answers
Ss read the advert from the previous lesson again and in pairs find two things they think are good about the flat. T monitors and helps if necessary
Ss listen to Alex talk to an estate agent about the flat and put the things they talk about in order. One of the Ss puts the answers on the board.
Ss listen again and decide whether the statements about the flat are true or false. Ss compair their answers in pairs Ss listen again and check their answers against the listening script
Ss in threes ask and answer the questions about Turkey. Ss get FB by reading the answers put on the walls.
