Main Aims

  • To provide practice of City Features in the context of asking and answering questions about a city

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification about City Features in the context of visual aids, situations and definitions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T writes five activities on the board for Ss to do in a foreign country. Ss should rank these five activities from the most interesting to the least interesting from their points of view. -After they finish, Ss will discuss their preferences in pairs and identify the differences between each other's rankings.

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

-Ss will have 2 minutes to complete a test (matching words with the right definitions). -Ss will discuss their answers in pairs. -Feedback: The teacher will check the answers with the students to identify the vocabulary they are unsure about and start from there.

Teach (12-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-T will use context, definitions, or visual aids depending on the nature of the vocabulary. Through the method of contextualization, the teacher will try to elicit the word. -After clarifying the word, the T will ask CCQs (Concept Checking Questions) to check understanding of the word through yes/no questions. -Then the T will start drilling through choral drilling, group drilling, and individual drilling to check pronunciation. -Whiteboard analysis: T will mention the part of speech and the stressed syllable of the vocabulary to check the form of each word.

Test #2- Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-T will provide a handout with a multiple-choice test to check the Ss' understanding of the lesson. -Ss will discuss their answers in pairs. -T will discuss the answers with the Ss to provide feedback.
