Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for functional language in the context of advantages and disadvantages.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of the introduction of CCTV cameras.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Very short lead-in as they already had one in their first period and I am just continuing the class. I will ask about their former class and if they enjoyed it. They had to work really hard on figuring out the accents in the first period and I will try to encourage them to continue to work hard.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production through choosing words and phrases

Ss have to choose words and phrases to complete the sentences.

Functional language (2-3 minutes) • To find out student's background in understanding functional language

Will hand out flash cards to ss and they have to place them on the board in the respective groups for positive, negative, both. They can discuss briefly with their partner before placing them.

Functional Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify functional language for coming productive tasks

I elicit the correct words, phrases and meaning from the ss and how best to use them.

Functional language exposure (6-8 minutes) • To intensify functions and related structures for later productive tasks

Want to elicit sentences from ss on how to ask for opinions, giving opinions, expressing agreement, making suggestions and responding to suggestions.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

SS are being divided into four groups to discuss reasons for or against CCTV cameras. After some discussion I would like to switch two members to the next group to introduce their view points.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In the end of the discussion where all the groups have made up their reasons for and against the introduction of CCTV cameras there will be FB and DEC.
